I Just Realized...

Haven't done one of these in a while....

Most people don't know this about me: I love making up my own songs. I also play the drums!
My favorite music: Techno-house with lots of drum and bass. Indie Rock is also a favorite.
Random: I hate alcohol and never really drink much past a sip of Champagne.
I collect: MP3's from iTunes and am always up for discovering something new.
Favorite song right now: Fans Kings of Leon
Favorite quote: Everything happens for a reason.
If you could trade places with anyone it would be: Marissa Cooper on The OC, Season 1.
90210 or Gossip girl?: 90210 for the characters and story lines, Gossip girl for the decadence.
The happiest moment in life: Was spending a week in Disney World!
It's Cheesy, but I like: Hallmark channel movies.
The one food I could eat forever is: Pasta.
My secret celebrity crush is: on Robert Pattinson.
I'm addicted to: Top Chef Just Desserts.
My favorite actress is: Amanda Seyfried.
If I were an animal, I'd be: a Horse!
The one thing I spend too much money on: Shoes!
I wish I could Splurge on: Burberry Shearling-lined aviator boots.
I'm disappointed about: Networks canceling great TV. Lone Star had potential as did The Beautiful Life. Why?

Happy Friday and weekend!!
xx

French Dressing

With all of the amazing designers out there, from Yves Saint Laurent to Karl Lagerfeld, why is it that a woman feels most sexy in men's clothing? From boyfriend jeans to menswear trousers and jackets, even the occasional pair of sweatpants. I find that I feel most confident in something oversize and comfortable. The French nailed it when they said, through what they wear, that French Dressing is simply nothing more than subtle elegance paralleling comfort. That's not to say I don't admire a glorious gown or a great towering pair of heels, I do. I just like to wear something a little different, when I'm at home; lounging the day away...

Hopefully, this cohesive collage I made below, will help introduce you to some more of my favorite things at this moment..... Swirling clouds in the sky, beautiful Cherry Blossom trees, Alexander McQueen and his skeletal decorated ankle booties (these bad boys are headed my way soon) WhoWhatWearDaily- the book, Isabel Marant Spring into Summer sky blue mini frocks, Ali Stephens in Numero editorial for October 2009: see the collage/desktop I made here. Anja Rubik and Lace; harmonious. 80's rock music and lately Elton John's Bennie and the Jets has been on repeat. Covering up for Fall, in: black, black, and more black; lots of layers, cannot wait. And, pondering what to be this Halloween.....

A personal Thank You. :)

Collage images used from: fashioncanvas, stardustandsequins, knighttcat, and tfs- thanks!

Andy Warhol had his muses too...

Subconscious, but also conscious, Inspiration.

Since I have lately taken to sharing my outfits with you more frequently, I only found it fitting to also share some of the inspiration behind my thinking when it comes to picking these certain ensembles. Welcome to my world, behind the scenes, so to speak.

• The coffee table book, Influence, penned by Mark Kate and Ashley Olsen, is a widespread collection of interviews featuring iconic legends in the Fashion realm. These are some noteworthy Q and A sessions with the likes of Mary Kate and Ashley's own personal private muses.

• A teeny, tiny, stuffed, black French poodle. A past Holiday present I have yet been able to part with. She seems so very French to me and her given name is Orange Marmalade.

• The beautiful red sequined hair clip in the shape of a bow, so fitting for the little part of Dorothy in us all. "There is no place like home, there is no place like home, there is no place like.."

Sex and The City, the movie. Yes, I felt the series was better on television, only because it delved deeper into the individual characters' lives, but finally getting to see Big and Carrie and their marvelous romance on the big screen? Kind of a blockbuster moment too. Not to mention the shoes, shoes, shoes and more shoes. Was I the only one enamored by Carrie Bradshaw's wardrobe yet again!? I think not!

Heart shaped sunglasses in a light flirty pink? Check. Because the girly girl in me said so. Thank you, Suzanne. ;)

Nylon magazine. It's as if all of my favorite editorial and photo blogs got married and had this beautiful little baby! Doesn't hurt that many of my favorites have graced their hallowed halls and donned their best to be captured for the cover; Nicole Richie, Sienna Miller, Leighton Meester, 90210's entire female cast, Ashley and Mary Kate Olsen, and Zooey Deschanel, just to name a few.

The Tudors. Season 1; because that's all I've seen so far (one episode left to go before I can move onto Season 2) and because of Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Henry Cavill.. that's all!

A Year in Fashion by Pascal Morche, which I had to purchase when I heard my good friend Lissa was getting it. Hello, a book so thick you can't carry it with only one arm, and totally loaded with fashion? And Audrey Hepburn is on the cover? YES, YES, YES!!!!

• My trusty Composition notebook, filled with doodles, recipes, notes, ideas, quotes, song lyrics, wish lists and anything else worth jotting down. I carry "her" (yes, her) with me everywhere. I call her Jules.

• The most beautiful color in the world to me, is purple. So it is only natural to state how much I adore my decadent lilac ring from Ice.com.

• The tiny periwinkle twinkle between Influence and my Composition notebook belongs to a ring my Mother surprised me with some odd three years ago. It was exactly the bauble I needed to finish off my look for my Cousin's wedding. I treasure it for the many memories that come with it, every time I wear it.

Framed Audrey Hepburn photograph. Taken from an Audrey Hepburn picture fan book, I had to preserve her in frame. This is my favorite still from Breakfast at Tiffanys. The hairstyle, Givenchy dress, pearls, sunglasses, croissant, gloves, Tiffanys!

500th Post!!

I made it to the holy blog threshold of the 500th post! Thanks to Wanderlusting and her convenient reminder on her own recent post about the exact same topic. You know who I applaud though? Not me. All of you. Every single one of my readers (all of you!) are the true inspiration behind Fashion Chalet; my sparkle. I love you!

I thought in honor of all this, I'd give you a little more insight into who I am with: random facts, past favorite blog posts and some of my favorites in general..... I hope you enjoy.

Some of the blog posts I most took pleasure from over this last year are this Fashion Week collage, and when I wore my Marc Jacobs trench for the very first time (blog-wise), the text I wrote in this post. A reader request - for those of you who have been asking for some more images of Sweety; here, here and here. Lately I can't get enough of Iced lattes (thank you, Starbucks!) The bright neon nailpolish collection by Essie. Can you guess which color I picked? Bodysuits (especicially by Motel and Urban Outfitters) I'd love to own a plethora. Oversize sunglasses, multicolored cardigans á la Rodarte and Missoni print pullovers. Wanting to get my hands on the perfect shimmery one-piece bathing suit for Summer. As far as cuisine goes; I love my bi-weekly lunch salads. All of the Odwalla protein shakes, fill me up, cool me off and of course, offer a grand dose of protein and energy. My favorite meal of the day has to be dinner, my famous shrimp fettucine or slow-cooked chicken with veggies and Italian cheese. Sweet potatoes and beets are the perfect side dish to just about every meal, luckily they're both easy to prepare and everybody's favorite. And in general, I really love Bruno Dayan's photography, this and him right now.

Just a few Wants!

• Vince Motorcycle jacket

Serena Van der Woodsen (Blake Lively) had on the most perfect cropped leather jacket on Gossip girl. I believe the
episode was "The Age of Dissonance" at the bar scene near the end with Blair.

• Alexander Wang Tee

He describes them as being the perfectly slept in shirt. Never tight, or body conscious; rather loose and soft.

• Black eyeliner

Anything dark as night and long lasting is good in my book.

• Essie nail polish

In turquoise. Other fans? Tallulah Morton and Harley Viera Newton.

• The perfect blazer

A new favorite line of mine, Boy by Band of Outsiders, the pieces in their collection are simply epic! I want a perfectly
fitted, yet somehow loose and baggy, blazer. Nothing cropped, just right.

Beauty Essentials! + The Supemelon

Check out the Feature here.
  • Powder foundation - I like loose and subtle. Something to help even my skin tone; yet airy and light. I usually opt for Cover Girl in Natural Beige or Chanel’s Creme Beige.

  • Blush - Maybelline’s Toast of New York adds just the right touch of subtle color without going overboard. I use this shade almost everyday, for night I like to go for Chanel’s Glamour, which is a little richer in color.
  • Lipgloss - Chanel’s Sirop is my favorite shade, reminds me of the kind of color I always imagined applying onto my Barbie as a little girl…
  • Nails - New York Color and OPI, usually. But I’m not a snob when it comes to labels, I like any brand as long as the color fits my style du jour. Right now I have on a party poppin’ pink colour (that I mixed out of 3 different shades) on my toes from OPI and usually go back and forth between my OPI’s Boris & Natasha (deep purple) and Vodka & Caviar (elegant rich red). I can never go long without having my toes painted either; that’s key!!
  • Eyeliner - The darker the better. I adore the slanted eye pencils by Styli-Style best.
  • Bronzer - My two staples are Chanel’s Toundra and Revlon’s Skinlights Face Illuminator.
  • Perfume - Daisy by Marc Jacobs, Original Juicy Couture and The One by Dolce & Gabbana are my rotating favorites… for now.
  • Face Wash - Neutrogena Deep Clean Cream Cleanser is perfect in the shower, when you really want to strip away any extra oil or dead skin. After I get out, I like to re-cleanse with Original Noxema Deep Cleansing Cream; and just before bed as well.

Fashion Chalet turns 1 year old.. and 2 months!

Blogger Birthday! I can't even begin to fathom that I have been blogging for this long. I remember when I first "created" Fashion Chalet, in January 2008. Today Fashion Chalet is exactly 1 year and 2 months old, can you believe it?? Clapping, whistling, cheering and candle blowing to proceed... haha. My wish? To thank all of you personally, for it is because of you, my very generous and sweet readers, that I keep this up. You inspire me, to work harder and to push myself further. A kiss for all of you, and a cupcake too, that is if I could manage individually mailing them out, without crushing the lovely vanilla frosted and sprinkled tops...... xoxo!

Audrey Hepburn, a Unicorn, and Chocolate! "Oh My!"

Just in time for Valentine's day...

I always seem to get this dire need, this ravenous craving, for chocolate. Luckily, Laura and I decided on a chocolate / candy swap sometime around the Holidays of 2008. I longed for Cadbury while she vied for the American classics. Her parcel is set to go out later this week. Thank you DaisyChainDreams for indulging me with Chocolate, my favorite mythical creature- the Unicorn, and Audrey Hepburn!

9 Facts of Life, my Life.. x Twice the Tags!

I was tagged by two very special, very lovely ladies today. Cameron of Stardust and Sequins and Laura of Daisy Chain Dreams. And since I actually have some time to sit down and do them, I figured why not? They were both pretty fun to do too. I tag everyone and anyone who wants to take part. Have fun!

Tag (#1)
Cameron asked me to list 9 unknown facts that I could share about myself:
  1. Teen Wolf was my favorite movie as a kid. I watched it incessantly, according to my Mom.
  2. Johnny Quest, The Gummi Bears and The Smurfs were my favorite cartoons as a kid. To be honest, Johnny Quest was the only thing that would distract me enough as a toddler to actually eat the food I was being fed from my high chair.
  3. I still eat baby food, today, haha. They make for a delectable little snack in between meals. Especially the fruit blended ones. The "Apples, Pears and Bananas" one is a winner with me!
  4. I always develop crushes on guys who can either make me laugh or on ones that can sing really well. My latest crush is on the lead vocalist of A Cursive Memory (more so on his voice, he's too young for me! haha!)
  5. I miss Reading Rainbow. It was one of my favorite childhood programs, especially since I was such an avid reader (I still am.) I miss the show because the host used to read all of these really cool kids books out loud and show all of the illustrations on camera. It was fun.
  6. As a kid, and even now, I have this odd drive to collect tiny things (erasers, stickers, Polly pocket.)
  7. When I first wake up, I like to be alone. I'm usually grumpy for the first hour. I don't like to make eye contact or talk.
  8. My best "thinking" time of day, is actually late at night. It's when the best ideas come to me, almost in bursts of light.
  9. I love making sand castles. I can spend hours at the beach, lost in my own little world, doing just that. My specialty? Creating drip castles. Hahah!
Tag (#2)
Laura asked me to showcase my blogging "space" simple enough. Thanks, miss Laura. :)

"The Friday 5"

Why not kick off the start to the weekend with a list of currents? You all seemed to like it the last time I did it. And I have fun making them. So... my current 5 are as follows:
  1. I wish that Unicorns were real.
  2. I used to collect stickers as a kid. I had the collector's books where you could organize all of them inside. I would even have parties to trade with my friends. It was incredibly fun. To this day, I still have a fondness for Lisa Frank stickers.
  3. Another secret single behavior of mine (that helps keep me sane after a long day or hectic week) is eating a huuuuge homemade salad for lunch, while watching either Gossip girl or 90210 on iTunes.
  4. I collect My Little Pony stuff. I love my little girls.
  5. I've always wanted to decorate my room in an earthy, natural yet moody tone, a la Erin Wasson. Maybe 2009 will be a great year for doing just that!
